Green Hydrogen Infrastructure

Building the Backbone of Germany’s Hydrogen Economy

WAL – Wasserstoff aus Lubmin is a large-scale green hydrogen project jointly developed by H2APEX and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). Located in Lubmin on Germany’s Baltic Sea coast, the project combines direct access to offshore wind power, existing high-voltage electricity infrastructure and immediate connection to the German hydrogen core network with 400km already being operational from Lubmin – all at a single, uniquely suited site.

WAL has a capacity of 100 MW in its first development phase and is designed for industrial-scale hydrogen production. It is not a pilot project, but a foundational asset for Germany’s emerging hydrogen economy.

Planned electrolysis capacity in Phase 1
100 MW in a Phase 1
Target hydrogen production
up to 10,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year
Renewable power source
Powered by renewable energy from offshore/onshore wind and solar (access to approx. 1.5 GW nearby offshore wind)
Start of hydrogen production
Phase 1: 2029

Why Lubmin?

Lubmin brings together critical infrastructure elements that rarely exist in combination. The site offers immediate access to renewable power, ready-to-use grid and pipeline infrastructure, and integration into Germany’s hydrogen backbone. As a former power generation site, Lubmin provides industrial land, grid connections and permitting conditions ideally suited for large-scale hydrogen production.

Hydrogen Core Network & FLOW Corridor

WAL is located at the starting point of the FLOW hydrogen pipeline, Germany’s most important north–south hydrogen corridor. The first 400 km have been in operation since December 2025, enabling early hydrogen transport to industrial demand centres across Germany.

WAL – Powering Germany’s Hydrogen Future

WAL stands apart through its uniquely integrated location in Lubmin, where offshore wind, grid and hydrogen backbone meet at a single site. As a key entry point in Eastern Germany, it turns legacy energy infrastructure into a new green energy hub. Built at industrial scale from day one, WAL delivers hydrogen where and when it’s needed—unlocking demand and accelerating market reality.

Project Partners

WAL is jointly developed by H2APEX and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). Both partners bring complementary expertise across hydrogen project development, renewable energy, infrastructure investment and long-term asset management.
